Dr. Merritt is triple board certified in Sports Medicine, Pediatrics and Internal Medicine. She is a native Georgian and grew up in Gwinnett County. She attended Brookwood High School and then went off to University of Alabama on a Track and Cross-Country scholarship. While there she suffered sports related injuries and developed her passion for Sports Medicine. She graduated from the University of Alabama with her degree in Biology. Dr. Merritt attended medical school at St. George’s University and was afforded the opportunities at some of the best teaching institutions in the US and England. She then completed her residency in Pediatrics and Internal Medicine at the University of Kentucky.
Upon completion of residency, Dr. Merritt came back to her Georgia roots and chose Athens to focus on primary care with Dr. Charles Braucher. After 3 years of primary care, she elected to pursue her passion for Sports Medicine and completed her fellowship in Primary Care Sports Medicine in 2010 at Steadman Hawkins in Greenville, SC. Prior to opening her own practice, Dr. Merritt worked with an Orthopedic Surgeon in a neighboring community. In addition to primary care, Dr. Merritt’s focus is on adolescent and young adult non-operative Sports Medicine and Concussion Management. Dr. Merritt is dedicated to helping North Georgia young athletes keep active, healthy and growing.
Dr. Merritt is happily married and has 2 wonderful sons. All her life she has been an avid athlete as a competitive runner, gymnast and soccer player. Most recently she is an avid triathlete and continues to run. Dr. Merritt also enjoys spending time with family, friends and any outdoor activity.
